TSC Subsea is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted in Petrobras’ CPSI Robotic FPSO Hull Inspection Challenge, an initiative aimed at transforming the way FPSO hulls are cleaned and inspected while remaining in service.

Petrobras challenged the global industry to develop a robotic solution that could clean and conduct corrosion mapping of the hull and be launched directly from the FPSO deck, eliminating the need for divers, ROVs, or additional support vessels. The system needed to be autonomous or semi-autonomous and capable of performing large-area inspections using a screening non-destructive testing (NDT) technique combined with ultrasonic thickness measurements.

TSC Subsea’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Technology (ART) was recognised for its non-contact probes, resistance to marine growth, and ability to efficiently map corrosion on both external and internal surfaces with sub-millimetre accuracy.

A critical requirement was that the tool also be able to clean the hull surface prior to inspection in both submerged and emerged regions. It had to navigate flat and slightly curved surfaces, move vertically and horizontally, and handle minor obstacles and structural transitions.

To meet these demanding specifications, TSC Subsea partnered with Beerenberg and its subsidiary Remotion to deliver an all-in-one solution. By integrating TSC’s ORCA inspection system with Remotion’s robotic cleaning capabilities, the two companies combined their expertise into a single, fully integrated platform that delivers both high-performance cleaning and reliable inspection data, seamlessly aligned with Petrobras’ requirements.

Among a competitive field of global submissions, the TSC Subsea and Remotion collaboration stood out for its technical depth, innovation, and practical application.

This shortlisting highlights TSC Subsea’s commitment to innovation in subsea inspection and its ability to deliver forward-thinking solutions that enhance safety, reduce operational downtime, and minimise risk in offshore environments.

“We are honoured to be shortlisted by Petrobras and excited to contribute to the future of in-service FPSO UWILD hull inspections,” said David Melo, Sales Manager at TSC Subsea. “This recognition reflects the strength of our collaboration with Remotion and the technical depth of our solution.”

TSC Subsea looks forward to the next stage of the challenge and to supporting Petrobras and the wider offshore industry in advancing smarter, safer inspection practices through robotics.
